TAKING IN THE LA MARKET

I’m blogging live from the California Gift Show in LA. This market is a mecca of fab and glam like no other. We’ll be coming home with new storage solutions for 2012, dreamy holiday gifts and loads of color + design inspiration. As always, Russell + Hazel was a show stopper. We were crazy over the One Day at a Time Notepad bundle this holiday season, but you will swoon along with us over what’s coming soon. (*screams*)

PUT SOME ORGANIZING IN YOUR DAY

Getting organized is full-time work, not something we do sometimes. If you make a habit of putting things in their space each day, you’ll be less overwhelmed and pretty organized.

It’s kind of like getting everyone in your household on board with putting something in the dishwasher when they use it. Drives you crazy…right? Hang clothes when you take them off, put those gorgeous shoes in their place, cosmetics look better where they belong rather than on the bathroom counter, and most importantly…put your keys in the same place everyday as you walk in the door. If you don’t have a “place” for your keys, create one today.

Meet my friend, Birdie. These key organizers are something to chirp about and one of my personal faves. I not only love them because they are great looking, but they are also magnetic and can hold a ‘do not forget’ note.

Make “just do it” your mantra. You’ll be happier and much less stressed.

Are you in?

Cheers!

Get Organized Month!

Hello 2012 and Happy New Year to all! It’s a New Year and time for a refreshing new start. January is Get Organized Month and we’re going to be bringing you tips that we hope will inspire you, help make life better and way more fun. We are committed to getting your organized…one project at a time.

To get you started, here’s an easy and low-budget project that will give you almost instant satisfaction and results. Who doesn’t love to feel good when you complete a task? See…happier already.

Tackle the Junk Drawer
The junk drawer is probably one of the biggest problem areas in most homes. To organize your junk drawer, sort the contents into two groups; a.) what you will keep and b.) what you will toss. Re-create this space to become a place where you keep things handy. Junk drawer organizers or modular bins do the job almost for you and you’ll have a smile on your face in no time.

drawer organizers

Junk drawer organizers are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Our two-tier Everything Drawer Organizer is a staff pick for 2012 and it’s no wonder. With 22-compartments it can hold a lot of stuff and keep it NEAT.

So come on….get started and get happy. If you are feeling really creative, send me a picture. Your organized space might be featured on Organize.com.

Creative Holiday Packaging? Scarf in a Jar

So, we were talking about creative packaging for the holidays with our editors. Organize.com Staffer, Crystal Lopez came up with an idea that we just loved. She bought each of her friends scarves that fit their personalities and “canned them” in one of our Quattro Stagioni Canning Jars from Italy. Her friends loved them as much as we did.

Add your favorite holiday ribbon, gift topper, twine or raffia and you’ve got yourself a gift with some extra thought. Very clever Crystal!

We’d love to hear your creative gift packaging ideas. Share them with us on our Organize.com Facebook page.

Are You Ready for the Twelve Days of Christmas?

I’ve seen so many adorable ideas for filling or making Advent Calendars this year on Pinterest. If you are crafty enough to make your own calendar, felt is a great material to work with and can be found at just about any craft store by the yard. Hurry…because the red will be a quick sell out, but don’t pass up the gray flannel.

If you aren’t the the craftiest mom on the block or just don’t have the time, we’ve found what we think is a great alternative to a homemade calendar. Our Christmas Countdown Advent Calendar is a simple classic design and made by Reisenthel, so you know it’s sure to be nice.

Looking for an alternative to candy for your family’s Twelve Days of Christmas countdown this year? Try crafting some gift tags with something fun written all over them to share with Mom, Dad or as a family that is special and will also create great memories. Decorate cookies, unwrap a new book to read, go sledding with Dad are just some of the fun ideas we’ve come across. These thoughtful little gift tags will give you some extra time with every child (or adult!) in your house and something for everyone to remember.

Whether your countdown calendar is made from scratch or store bought (our lips are sealed), make your kids feel extra special and give them something that money just can’t buy.
